[Rant] Don’t It Just Break Your Heart – The Originals 5×05

It seems I’m a bit late in watching the episode (just watched it yesterday) so here’re a couple of my thoughts regarding the fifth episode of the final season.

Warnings: spoilery, rant-y and disjointed. Inappropriate jokes and salty comments. The gifs aren’t mine.

  • Where should I begin?
  • Ah, it genuinely surprises me Greta turns out to be the mastermind behind Hayley’s abduction. I thought she was merely a guest star, who’s been there as a (small and insignificant) voice of contempt. It’s even a bigger surprise that she gives herself up so easily, and that Klaus and Marcel can be too lenient and careless in dealing with a potential threat, not to mention a crucial lead in finding Hayley. No chains, no binding spell, no dark object to restraint her movement or to keep other vampires (Josh) from entering the dungeon and aiding her to escape, just bleeding her wrist and driving a nail through her hand, not event cutting her throat to speed up the bleeding?? Like that’s enough to subdue a vampire with decades under her arms. Seriously people.
  • And Greta beats the ever loving crap out of Josh and walks out the dungeon like a boss. Yeah, didn’t see that coming at all. She just walks out of it, spotted by none and pretty much fine even without the daylight ring.
  • And why the hell does Marcel allow Josh to enter?
  • And why Greta has to beat Josh to a pulp while she only needs to snap his neck? Does she harbor any personal grudge against this bar-owning junior vampire?
  • That is serious dumb writing. But what should I expect from the one who majorly messed up The Vampire Diaries’ seasons 5-8?!

  • Anyway, Josh should learn something from this lesson. Being too naive and trusting in this world of TO only earns him a lot of broken bones and bruises.
  • Good thing he’s the writers’ favorite so his armor is thick enough to protect him from Greta’s fiery fists.
  • This August character reminds me of someone. I wonder who that is.

  • A German (vampire) turns out to be a fascist. I must say “Positively cliché”.

  • What did the wolves do to offend him anyway?
  • Is this a reference to Twilight?

  • I never actually liked Roman’s character before but I didn’t hate him either. However, after his breaking and entering, my neutral attitude towards him just goes straight to negative. Invading people’s privacy is a serious offense. If I were Hope, I’d snap his neck, strip him to his underwear and hang him in the schoolyard like a piece of undergarment being aired.

  • And it’s no surprise he’s the bad boy, possibly carrying a whole ‘your Daddy killed my Daddy’ vendetta. Don’t it just break Hope’s heart when she finds out? Our little tribid girl deserves better than having her first sweetheart use and betray her.
  • Is Roman’s August’s real son? And Antoinette also? Or were they adopted. Antoinette did say something about her being stoned to death.
  • Since Roman’s involved with Hayley’s kidnap (and maybe Henry’s death), does that mean spoilers win and Hayley’s going to die in the sixth episode?
  • The whole binding Hope’s wolf nature with Esther’s spell is kinda bullshit. Back in The Vampire Diaries, it requires a human Doppelganger’s blood (Elena’s blood) as the essential element to the ritual and now just Hope’s blood will suffice?? Supposed Hope’s blood were somehow equivalent to Elena’s blood (because at this point she’s the only Doppelganger left alive), there’d the matter of unbinding. The original unbinding of Klaus required a Doppelganger’s blood, so according to that logic, Freya only needs Hope’s blood to unbind her werewolf side? If that’s the case, what’s the point in binding anyway?
  • But, again, it’s Julie Plec and her fuck-logic tendency, what do I expect?

  • Most favorite thing of the episode: The song when it’s revealed Roman is Greta’s son and Antoinette’s brother.
