[Rant] One Wrong Turn on Bourbon – The Originals 5×02

Warnings: spoilers galore, inappropriate jokes and comments. Some memes aren’t mine.

If I had to pick a word from the episode to describe, I’d choose Freya’s “suffocated”. The episode feels suffocating with very emotional scenes (Klaus and Hope, Freya and Keelin) and a feeling of dread threading throughout the entire length, but it’s the good kind of “suffocated” so I can bear through it without complain. Here’re my (bulleted and disjointed) thoughts on the episode:

  • So, it actually rains blood in (all over) New Orleans, not just the spot where Vincent’s sitting, wearing a cool hat and writing something only he knows. Guess it’s quite a burden to street cleaners having to clean up the blood on the streets.
  • Why is Vincent the only one concerned about the blood rain while the vampires, wolves and witches make no comment?! Seriously they’re supernatural beings living in a city notorious for black magic and yet they believe it’s only a freaky weather phenomenon?
  • Klaus’s back at the compound and that Freya-Klaus hug is the very first union we’ve got to see. More, please. I long for the day the whole family can sit in the living and the sky doesn’t rain blood nor the snakes slither everywhere.

  • A flashback of little Hope using magic to find her dad in compromising situation. Nobody warns the little girl wherever her Dad (or any of her relative for that matter) goes, things tend to get R-rated. Though it’s a bit early but it’s best she learn the many facets of her dad.

  • I still don’t like the way Marcel just strolls back to the city and declares himself king (again). It’s the 21st century, democracy rules!
  • Seems to be his only vice to me; otherwise he’s cool, especially how he handles the Henry situation. “Nobody hurts kids.”
  • I don’t know if I should feel flattered or creeped out when my crush finds out my address and pays me a surprise visit through the window. Apparently Hope doesn’t mind as she had a kinda warped sense of normalcy.

  • Why do vampires have to go to school? My question has remained unanswered since the day TVD. Just ask Stefan what he actually learnt at school when he was swept away by all the supernatural events.
  • I guess since Hope’s a teenager, her intended romantic interest should be (or look) teenager and even better, go to the same school as her. If Roman were a vampire around her dad’s age look-wise, many would boo.
  • One thing immediately gives out Roman’s real age is that he doesn’t ask for Hope’s house’s wifi password to kill his time on social media while waiting for her to return. Instead he gives himself a tour of the house. That doesn’t look suspicious at all.
  • Oh, a mention of Aurora. I thought they had forgotten about her existence. Seems like the Mikaelsons don’t know what to do with her and neither do the writers.

  • The Trinity’s storyline was so, so poorly handled. At least give Aurora an ending.

  • Hope seems to have inherited her dad’s dark sense of humor. Bonus point: Roman actually looks shocked.

  • Why do I have a feeling things might take a turn for the worse with this Ivy seer? Last time we had a seer (Lucien’s seer), she dropped dead after a few episodes.
  • Hope puts a spell on her mother to get her dad’s attention. Like father, like daughter. She even got a nice coffin for Hayley.
  • Oh, doesn’t that sound like a bad omen? I’ve kept a skeptical view on the spoilers all over the internet that Hayley’s gonna die but there’re already signs of it.
  • It’s real shame an actress who’s been on the show since the very beginning can’t make it to the every end.
  • Who- or whatever has attacked and taken Hayley and kills Henry later seems to be focus on hybrids. Who’s the next target? Klaus?
  • And, I was right about Henry. He didn’t survive until the third episode. The “introducing new characters only to kill them off after a few episodes before viewers get to know them” is really an awful plague.
  • I’m scared for Antoinette, whom I’ve taken a liking to before she even gets on screen. Just have a feeling her personality will match Elijah’s.
  • Snake coming out of mouth? OK, that sounds familiar. Yeah, American Horror Story: Coven (whose setting is coincidently New Orleans) has done that. I wonder if it’s related to voodoo.

  • Most favorite thing of the episode: Freya’s crystal balls puns
