A Virgo’s heart

They say an Aries’ heart is made of fire and a Virgo’s, of ice.

She is a Virgo and hers is a clear, unblemished heart of ice which glitters under the sunlight like finest crystal.

She loves its perfection; she yearns for love that only exists in dream.

But a dream is only a dream while life is too cruel, too brutal.

He’s gone, leaving behind an ugly crack on her fragile heart. With every heart beat its ruggedness gives her indescribable agony. Still, what pains her worse is the undeniable truth that her beloved heart has lost its prideful perfection.

They tell her that her heart can be fixed , that her crack can be mended. Mended it can be, she replies, her voice choked, but it can never be the same as before.

She suppresses her pain and melts it down to form a new one.

A new heart, unblemished, glittering under the sunlight like finest crystal.

She contemplates it in silent satisfaction.

Once again she falls in love. Once again her vulnerable heart cracks.

She keeps staring at the crack on which her tears wet.

Once again she suppresses her pain and melts it down.

She examines her “new” heart. It’s still so lovely yet, she no longer feels satisfied with its regeneration.

None but her realizes there is no way to fix the imperfection which has eaten into its core.

New loves come and go, leaving behind hideous cracks.

Time and time she suppresses her pain.

Desperate in trying preserve her Virgo’s heart’s perfection, she does not notice that a portion is lost every time she hurls it into the kiln.

Portion after portion is gone. Until one more time it is melted down and her heart is lost.

This crack is too grievous for her little heart to bear. Even if she does not have it melted, it will soon break.

Beads of tear roll down her cheeks.

At this moment, her petit hand is held in a much larger one. A rough hand but nonetheless warm.

He holds out his other hand on which lies his own heart. A big, grey heart, the same as the man he is.

“Lay your heart in my hard one. By embracing your small heart, it will do it best to protect yours from all harms.”

On his stony heart her tears fall. But this time they are different; they are tears of joy and happiness.

Alternate Ending:

“Lay your heart in my hard one. By embracing your small heart, it will do it best to protect yours from all harms.”

On his stony heart her tears fall. But this time they are different; they are tears of utmost horror.

As she has been afraid, her heart begins to tremble.

Falseness is not the only thing destroys it. Sincerity also does.

How resentful is the fact that fate did not bring him to her earlier, when her heart could still endure.

His stony heart sports a crack when her Virgo’s heart shatters.

She looks into his honest eyes, her gaze hollow. “My apologies. Now I can no longer love.”

Without a second thought, she leaves him behind.
